New Hair Extension Installation
Our new hair extension install service begins by ensuring the perfect blend and color to match your natural hair. Once we know the ideal approach, the magic begins.
It’s time for installation! Once the coloring is complete, we begin the extension installation. This entails building the foundation of the extensions, also referred to as “the track.”
STEP 3
We begin coloring your hair. While your color is processing, we’ll serve you a delicious complimentary lunch if you choose.
STEP 2
Kick your feet up as we custom color your extensions. Enjoy a cup of coffee and light snacks while relaxing in our refreshment area.
STEP 1
- Our foundation/beadwork consists of small beads and your hair combined in a thin U-shaped section that follows the natural curve of your head.
- We place the hair extension wefts on the foundation, which blends in with your hair color.
- We stitch the hair onto the track using a cotton thread.
- We cut and texturize the extensions to blend with your natural hair and style your hair for the after-service photoshoot.
How It Works
The entire hair extension installation process takes 4-6 hours, and we’re dedicated to ensuring you have a relaxing and enjoyable experience at our Kansas City hair salon.

Hair Extension Maintenance
Caring for your new hair extensions is essential to keeping them looking and feeling fabulous. Your hair extensions need to be moved back toward your scalp every 6-8 weeks as your hair grows to ensure the health of your scalp and hair extension comfort.
Here’s what happens at your hair extension maintenance appointments:
We cleanse your extensions and reinstall them.

We touch up your color as needed.

We take your hair extensions out completely.

During this appointment, we can address any color needs and customize the color by toning, low-lighting, or adding a shadow root to them. The entire hair extension maintenance appointment takes 3-4 hours, and we’re dedicated to ensuring the color of your extensions is as seamless as day one!

Our Foundation is one of the most comfortable and low-tension methods on the market. It has little to no tension spots and can lay farther forward on the head to fill in those stubborn thin sides. To do this, we use a series of beads in a thin U-shaped section that follows the natural curve of your head.
At Lilac Roots, we use only the highest quality hand-tied hair extensions to ensure we provide our clients with the most natural and soft extensions. We exclusively carry Covet&Mane, Strands of Humanity, and Harper Ellis Hair, each of which ethically sources its hair and has a high standard of care.
There is usually a few-day adjustment period, but after that, your extensions will feel like a natural extension of your hair.
Our extensions are nearly undetectable because we use hand-tied hair which lays extremely flat on your head.
Most clients need to replace their hair every 6-9 months.
You’ll need to schedule a maintenance appointment every 6-8 weeks, depending on your hair type.
It takes a little while to get the routine down, but once you do, you’ll experience more ease in styling and less washing, as curls last for up to 5 days, and your hair extensions don’t get greasy.
